California, Here We Come

Posted in Memories at 4:57 pm by lane bailey

Lucas was the most enthusiastic person i have known when it came to something that he liked. One of my favorite things that I remember about Lucas was watching the O.C. with him. Even when he moved to montgomery from Auburn he would call to remind me how many minutes or hours till the O.C. began. He loved the song they play at the beginning ” california here we come…..” i laugh right now thinking about him calling when it was on and singing along over the phone. It was great. I remember having serious conversations with Lucas about these characters and whatever their drama was that week. I think that we thought they were actually real!!

Lucas would jump around the den and start singing “California” when the show began to come on.. It would be Monday and Lucas would tell me that Rachel and Seth were back together and I needed to watch the OC with him Thursday. By the end of the season we were buying a 6 pack or a bottle of wine every Thursday and watch the show.

Another funny OC memory was when he was single he was talking on the phone with this girl for like the first couple times they had spoken and I just remember him going crazy about the OC b/c we were watching it..He seriously was like “Oh my god look at Coop, and Go get him Ryan, Get Chino with him”. He was saying this into the phone! I said “Lucas that girl is not going to like you if you do that.” And his response was “Well if she doesnt like the OC, then forget her.”

Yes he was very enthusiastic about the O.C. In his choice of tv shows, he was definitely romeo for most girls. That reminds me of the Michael Jackson TV special. I still do not know for sure if he sincerely believed Michael Jackson was not wierd or if he was just in the mood for a good debate. He always tried to see the good in everyone and everything, and was the most forgiving person I know.

His obsession with TV started quite early in life. When he was three or four years old the Arnold Swartznegger (sp?) movie “Conan: the warrior” was playing on cable one summer. He wanted to watch it every time it was on…. I think i turned off the cable for a month so he would do something beside watch it. I can still see the tv in the corner of the millbrook house (in the pool table room) with this arc couch curved around it the TV.

Chance and Gabe sitting on the couch and Lucas standing right in front of the tv about two inches away… like all three year olds might do…. but Chance and Gabe were so tired of watching it with him they were not yelling at him to move out of the way. I think that was the day I called the cable company…. i think i must have just had the movie channel cancelled not the whole thing
