Wrong Book, Good Results

Posted in Memories at 4:12 pm by Rob Rosenfeld

During the year Lucas attended Lawrenceville, I got to see him a lot in New York City. He would come into the city on weekends and would stop by our apartment. One visit I had just finished reading one of my favorite books, Shogun, and was raving about it. He asked me a bit about it, enough to hear it was about Japan at least, and headed into my bedroom to browse my bookshelf. He came back out with Rising Sun explaining it was on my bookshelf, still about Japan, but much thinner. A couple visits later, he brought it back telling me that was the first book he’d read for fun in a long time. Years later during his last visit to New York, he told me he had read and enjoyed a book by Shogun’s author and happily took another from me. Those were probably my better influences on Lucas and I always felt good about it. Just another of the many ways Lucas could make you feel good.
